Lots of new tricks...

My blogging hiatus is very apparent when I realize how much Harper Ann has started doing with very little blog coverage. Here is a recap of some of our milestones.

In February she started a one legged crawl. She never really army crawled like Holt did, but seemed to prefer pushing up with her feet. This led to a one kneed, one leg crawl that is very hard to explain. She would stretch out and put one knee down and pull her other foot/leg across the floor. One day Jonathan cam in and asked if HA had a bruise on her foot; no bruise, just a dirty spot on her dead-leg (evidence of my need to clean the floors). She did this for a few months and then found her crawling rhythm. Every now and then she will regress to the one leg crawl, which makes me happy. Around this time she started pulling up on things as well and wanting to stand and cruise some.

Feed me she says. One of HA's tricks is signing more by putting her fingers together. Holt likes to get her to do this trick and is very adamant that she must make the sign before she gets her next bite. She gets really excited sometimes and just starts clapping and grunting.

She may look innocent, but I assure you this is the face of a baby that is up to something.

Apparently she got a hold of a purple fowl of some sort b/c I came in and found a lavender feather stuck to her lip.
She is on a mission

A little post bath mohawk does a person good

Now that she is mobile she is into everything.

We spent a lot of time playing peekaboo when it was too chilly to go outside. This is actually the only way I can get her hair to lay down on her head. I try brushing it and little plumes just fluff out anyway, but the static from the baby blankets make it manageable. If only I had time in the mornings to rub a blanket across her head.

Now that spring is finally here to stay, we have been taking afternoon or Saturday walks to the park. Holt loves to play in the dirt pile there and Harper Ann likes to run her fingers through the rocks and dig around. SO far (knock on wood) she has been really good about knowing that they are not edible and keeps them out of her mouth.

She has in the last month begun to repeat words, she is most proficient in the D sound. Jonathan can ask her “who am I” and she says dada everytime. We also have a deer (Fred) and some ducks on our wall. You can ask where the ducks are and she points then ask where the dear is and she points. She will say duh duh and dea dea when you ask. A few weeks ago she was standing at the back window and there were some birds in the grass in the back yard and she began slapping the glass and saying du du du. She can say Mama, but is much stingier with her “m” sounds.

She is obsessed with the dishwasher, to the point that one of us has to take her out of the kitchen at night when we are doing the dishes. She likes to pull the silverware out and drop it onto the floor. At first it was cute, now it is a little erksome, as my time is valuable and putting the same spoon in the dishwasher 10 times begins gets old. I even tried putting decoy tupperware in the dishwasher so I could load other stuff. This was a complete failure, straight for the dirty stuff went she.

She has a whole mouthful of teeth. She got her first one Halloween weekend and her mouth has been filling up since.

Some of her other tricks include blowing kisses. You can blow her a kiss or tell her to blow you one and she puts her palm to her mouth and makes a mwuah sound. You can also tell her to “love” something and she will pull it in close and swing side to side.

Starting about Mid-April, Harper Ann started to go from squatting to standing without any help or holding onto anything. You could tell her to dance and she would twist her body, but no walking. Then, the first weekend in May I took Holt to New Orleans and Jonathan had Harper Ann all to himself. Wouldn’t you know that on the Sunday we were on our way home I get a call from Jonathan that she walked form the coffee table to the couch. She has been on the move since that weekend and only really loses her balance when she starts grinning or laughing so hard she can’t see. Time is certainly moving at rapid pace, but we try our best to make the most of it.
